Color Pyschology

http://www.infoplease.com/spot/colors1.html

Currently the most popular decorating color, green symbolizes nature. It is the easiest color on the eye and can improve vision. It is a calming, refreshing color. People waiting to appear on TV sit in "green rooms" to relax. Hospitals often use green because it relaxes patients. Brides in the Middle Ages wore green to symbolize fertility. Dark green is masculine, conservative, and implies wealth. However, seamstresses often refuse to use green thread on the eve of a fashion show for fear it will bring bad luck.

Bright Yellow-Green: Trendy, whimsical, lively

Green has long been a
symbol of fertility and was once the preferred color choice for wedding gowns in the 15th-century. Even today, green M & M's (an American chocolate candy) are said to send a sexual message.

  • Researchers have also found that green can improve reading ability. Some students may find that laying a transparent sheet of green paper over reading material increases reading speed and comprehension.

There was a lot of green to report today. My professor, who I mentioned previously last week, is wearing the same olive green pull over. It makes an appearance only because I have a little crush on him and he's got a great color pallet over all.
The other fresh faced students are all in the Visualization program, not afraid to wear their green. The rug and the chair are from my house. The rug was purchase to go with two orange patio chairs that are awesome, and the green phone chair was given to me by one of my favorite roommates.

This is the sweater that I bought that gave me the idea to track the color green in clothing. I can't wait for it to warm up a bit so I can wear it. I guess I could wear this sweater now, but for some reason I feel I need to wait until it warms up a bit. I think mainly because I get cold easy and I don't want to wear something over it.

Finally, some good green clothes

Leave it to the lovely ladies of the Visualization major to be fearless in green. Three of my classmates were looking smashing in green.

Katy Smith:Cancer
Zoe Peterson:Scorpio
Lauren Posterick: Cancer

Green Beans

These lovely beans are from Rainbow foods at the Quarry. They were positioned right as you entered and I was drawn to them immmediately. I bought a bag and boiled them up for dinner. They tasted as good as they look.

Green clothes

I finally saw some good green clothing today. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera ready to go, I have had a really bad cold and haven't been on the ball. I guess I should qualify what I mean when I say good green clothing.

I remember really starting to love the color green maybe....a long time ago. It started in high school with a colored pencil. I had a set of six colors that where my signature colors and one of them was a lovely lime, chartreuse color. My love of green in clothing didn't come until a few years ago. I was into a pretty specific uniform of pinks and greens. This commitment to this color pallet made shopping unbelievably easy for me. I would of course wear other colors, but pink and green were the main colors of the wardrobe. I sometimes have such a hard time shopping, a problem that I think will remedy itself once I have more money to spend. Now I what I want is sometimes so unattainable that I usually end up buying nothing. People have said that I have campaign taste on a beer budget, totally true. I would much rather have a few really nice things that I love than a bunch of junk.
Having the commitment to the color pallet made it really easy and I loved the colors. Someone who wears green to me is someone who isn't afraid to be different, they are a risk taker, someone funny and confident. Not all greens qualify. Dark greens, drab olives they don't count. To me there are just another neutral.
Lime, Chartreuse, Spring Green, these are the colors that get noticed.

Green color spotting today:
In class this morning the girl sitting next to me had a bright spring green short sleeved sweater on and fabulous green and cream colored wedgies. Green shoes are awesome.

Sitting on my other side someone had on a light green zip up sweater with a flower pattern.

I also spotted a very bright lime greened pair of sneakers across the room.

Green Cookie

I can't believe I forgot to include in beautiful green cookie that I had today. It was a sugar cookie with green royal icing in the shape of a crown.
It wouldn't have mattered if I had my camera, I ate it so fast!

Will this assignment result in a purchase of a shiny new camera?

I sure hope so! I want to start recording my green sightings, but my digital camera is in a bad way. 2 megapixels aren't that mega anymore.

Green Sightings:

My professor had on a green pull over today, a sort of REI looking thing with hi-tech zippers. He wasn't wearing a shirt underneath and you could see his nipples. Also in the classroom were several copy paper green spiral bound notebooks that we were given. I had a mendota springs bottle, lime, that had a lovely shade of green.
The girl sitting across from me in class had on an olive green parka.

Taylor's reading was highlighted with green.

Kevin had a dark green stripe on his shoe.

But this dark green isn't the color I am really interested in. I am interested in GREEN, lime green, or spring green. Green that has some attitude.

Green in all the usual places

I thought I would start out this field journal by wearing a bit of green myself ( underwear). I didn't see too much green today, and for whatever reason I felt really crabby about looking for it. I think that may have to do with being a bit tired today. I saw green on all the street signs, and the BP on Franklin and 3rd Ave. Despite the scandal, I do like the BP logo. I saw a girl in front of the MIA wearing a green coat, a ski coat and when I was entering MCAD to go to class a girl had on a green sweater under her coat.

Other than that, I noticed a few green flags flying in front of a church on 3rd Ave, buy the convention center.

We'll see how I feel about this, but maybe I am going to focus more on green clothing. Look out for St. Paddys day!

Tracking the Color GREEN

I am going to track the color green for my field journal. It should be interesting to see how this will work out. I am a little nervous about tracking a color, but green is my favorite and I think it will prove to be an interesting assignment. especially once the snow melts.

Field Journal

Choose an object, COLOR, word, place, or topic to track throughout the course of this semester. It can be almost anything, but should be narrow in scope.
Your task is to record sightings of your topic in detailed field journal.

Entries to your journal should include he date, time, intervewee (if relevant), a sketch, photograph or recording, and notes that will help you recall the context in which you found the item. You will use your records and sightings in a project later this semester, so the more information you gather, the easier the project will be. Changes over time will be a factor, so maintain a least one entry per week.
